Managing Partner / Clinical Director
Sara Mindel
Sara Mindel, LCSW-C (she/her), is a somatic psychotherapist with over 20 years of experience specializing in trauma and healing, sexuality, and body-based therapy. She is the founder of Embodied Psychotherapy LLC and is trained in EMDR and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. Sara has worked extensively with LGBTQ and BIPOC communities in both clinical and community settings, including Whitman-Walker Health, SMYAL, and The Lambda Center.
A lifelong supporter of the arts, Sara began her involvement in theater in the 1990s with City at Peace and has continued to integrate her mental health expertise into the theater world. Today, she combines her mental health expertise with her love of performance by providing support to theater artists and organizations around her home in the Washington, DC, area, and beyond. Through her private practice and via a partnership with the DC Theater Consortium, Sara provides vital mental health support—including crisis intervention, individual care, and group workshops—to actors, casts, and theater organizations. Sara is also an at-large Board Member at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company in Washington, DC. She is dedicated to fostering safe, inclusive, and resilient spaces within the performing arts community.
Sara holds an MSW from the University of Pennsylvania and a BS from Lesley University. She also lectures on trauma, sexuality, and LGBTQ-affirming care, continuing to build vital connections between mental health and the performing arts.

Managing Director / Partner
Rachel Papantonakis
Rachel Papantonakis (she/her), is a polymath leader with over 25 years of experience in non-profit and private industry strategy, operations, and business development. Rachel brings a keen eye to organizational opportunities and challenges, seeking efficiencies and systems that work for all stakeholders. As Managing Director, Rachel seeks to steadfastly promote the Supporting Roles mission to transform American theater and creative spaces through mental wellness services by providing best-in-class experiences to our clients, providers, and community.
Rachel has loved the arts since she was a child. Growing up in Marblehead, MA, with a robust local community theater scene, and visiting Boston regularly to see plays and musicals, Rachel values the beauty and thought-provocation theater brings. She also spent her formative years working backstage on award-winning school-based and community theater costume design teams. Since moving to Washington, DC, two decades ago, Rachel has sought to take in all that the city’s performing arts venues have to offer. She is excited to move from the audience to a volunteer usher role with Shakespeare Theatre Company for their 2025-26 season in her spare time.
Rachel received a BS in Business Administration (with a minor in Art History) from Boston University. She holds a certificate in Project Leadership from Cornell University.
Rachel also loves learning new things and sharing with others. For instance, did you know that it’s THEATER when talking about the art and THEATRE when talking about the place?
